LUDOWICI, Ga. —
In the small town of Ludowici, Georgia, one woman has emerged as a beacon of hope for those affected by Hurricane Helene.
Behind the scenes at Katrina Foster-Fernandez’s home, the heart of her relief efforts, a supply table stands as a symbol of her commitment. Since the hurricane hit, Katrina and her seven children have been serving food and providing essential supplies to around 150 people every day.
“If I have a chance to help somebody else be okay, I'm always going to do it. Always,” Foster-Fernandez said.
Katrina and her family were personally impacted by Hurricane Helene. For two days, they were without power, and Katrina had to throw out all the food in her refrigerator: "It was a little rough," she reflected.
The difficulties she faced inspired her to help others. After hearing the heart-wrenching stories of those struggling, Katrina knew she had to act.
“When you hear someone’s story, and it reminds you of a situation that you were in too far from, or you could have been in yourself, it changes things. So, when I heard these stories, my heart melted and I was like, you know what? I could do this again tomorrow,” Foster-Fernandez shared.
What began as a modest effort has grown into a daily operation of providing food, water, and supplies to 150 people in her community. “I first served probably about maybe 50 people the first day. The next day it increased, and it just kept steadily increasing,” Foster-Fernandez said.

Beyond just food, Katrina has opened her doors to allow people to take showers and do laundry, offering them a bit of relief in these challenging times.
When asked why she goes the extra mile, she responded, "Because I know how it feels to be without."
Katrina Foster-Fernandez is committed to continuing her efforts as long as she financially can. “I'm going to be there for as long as I can for as many people as I can,” she said, determined to provide for those in need, even as she faces challenges of her own.
